Running The Rule On Monthly Contact Lenses
Monthly contact lenses are very popular today. Maybe it's the convenience offered by disposable contact lenses, or perhaps it is a safer way to wear contacts, I don't know. Not that the contact lenses are unsafe; more so that many of their users don't take enough care over the necessary hygiene when using contact lenses, and monthly contact lenses are an easier and safer answer.

This is not to say that you can be careless with monthly contact lenses either!
We are talking about your eyes, and they are very sensitive. By looking after your contact lenses properly, you are looking after your eyes, and that is a very good idea indeed.
Monthly disposable contact lenses were created to answer a simple need: the more often the contacts are replaced, the clearer the users vision. Add to that the fact that they are more comfortable to wear, and healthier too.
Soft contact lenses are made of a porous material and contain a considerable amount of water. Because of this, a large amount of tears created by any individual are absorbed into the lenses themselves.
Because of the way they have been made, monthly contact lenses will always have a build-up of foreign materials in and on the surface of the lens. Even the most diligent of contact lens cleansers will not be able to clean and disinfect them one hundred percent, and the lens still collects this debris. As you would expect, this means that the lenses themselves become less efficient in transmitting oxygen, which is necessary to keep the cornea healthy. The flip side of less oxygen is that the eye is more susceptible to infection.
Whichever way you look at it, disposable monthly contact lenses are a very good idea indeed.
