Hand Washing Contact Lenses

Your eyes are very sensitive, so hand washing contact lenses is very important, not only for the longevity of your lenses, but more importantly for the well being of your eyes. Transferring infections to your eyes through either dirty hands, dirty water or contaminated solutions if probably some of the main reasons for eye problems connected with the use of contact lenses.

There is another aspect to cleaning contact lenses that you ought to consider. What soap or cleaner do you use? You must avoid soap with oils or perfume in them because these materials can irritate the eye and give you a lot of discomfort.

The steps involved in hand washing contact lenses are as follows

1. Clean your hands thoroughly in non perfumed soap. Dirty hands will transfer dirt to your eyes and at best, cause you discomfort.
2. Remove one lens at a time, and place it in the palm of your hand.
3. Add a few drops of your cleaning solution (please refer to the manufacturers precise instructions on the bottle itself).
4. Rub the cleaning solution into the lens gently either with your thumb and fore finger or your finger and the palm of your hand.
5. Rinse the lens with some fresh cleaning solution.
6. Store the lens in your case, remembering to top up the case with solution.
7. Repeat for the other lens.

If you carefully follow this routing with your contact lenses, they will last a long time and your eyes should remain free from problems.

Please ensure that you rinse the cleaner completely off your lenses. The cleaner itself can cause eye irritation if not removed.
